May 10th, San Francisco CA

The Bol Punjab De team hit San Francisco’s Julia Morgan Ballroom at the Merchant Exchange building this weekend. Along side the great Ustad Lal Singh Bhatti on dhol and boliyan, plus Niku and Harvi in the mix, the packed house did bhangra until security shut it down. Im sure they had to after party it up as well. Big ups to the Bride and Groom Puneet and Ripple, they rocked!

Pittsburg 6.29.08

Bay Area’s Favorite Bhangra Djs do it again. Sunday night they rock Pittsburg CA for the Sandhu reception party. Playing the latest bhangra beat and all of the old school stuff as well. Song of the night would definitely have to be Koka by Jassi Sidhu, it seriously got the dance floor jumping. Lets not forget about Harvi on the dhol, he rocked it as usual.

What Not to Say to a DJ

I got an email from my colleague Mr. Sukhi Dosanjh of BPR Crew, and I just had to post it up. Heres a list of things not to say to a DJ. I have heard them all, and at every gig theres at least one. I dont know if every will find this funny, but I had a great laugh when I read this.

1. PLAY SOMETHING GOOD…SOMETHING WE CAN DANCE TO!
The DJ has to play for more than one person…so what you hate may be another’s favorite song and EVERYTHING played can be danced to one way or another.

2. WOULD YOU PLAY SOMETHING WITH A “BEAT”
BE SERIOUS! We know of NO songs played at a party that don’t have some sort of BEAT!

3. I DON’T KNOW WHO SINGS IT AND I DON’T KNOW THE NAME OF THE SONG, BUT IT GOES LIKE THIS….

PLEASE don’t sing for the DJ. They have to put up with a lot as it is …Do them a favor and DON’T give them a rendition of your favorite song.

4. EVERYBODY WANTS TO HEAR IT!
Oh, sure … you polled everyone on the dance floor and, as their spokesperson, you’re requesting the song.

5. EVERYBODY WILL DANCE IF YOU PLAY IT!
The DJ won’t. I guess that blows a hole in that theory!

6. I CAN GET LAID IF YOU PLAY IT!
Why settle for one night? Buy the album and get laid for a whole month!

7. I WANT TO HEAR IT NEXT!
The ONLY people who can get away with that statement write the DJ’s paycheck!

8. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO REQUEST, WHAT DO YOU HAVE?
It’s a lot easier for you to go have another beer and figure out what you want to hear than it is for the DJ to recite the name of every song in his collection!

9. HEY, MAN, NOBODY CAN DANCE TO THIS!
It’s NOT advisable to say this when the dance floor is packed (but some people do anyway)! HOWEVER, even if there is only ONE person on the floor, it STILL contradicts the statement!

10. PLAY IT SOON, BECAUSE WE’RE LEAVING!
If you’re gonna leave after he plays it, why shouldn’t he wait till the very last song so you stay all night!

Bol Punjab De rocks the 209

The bay’s Favorite punjabi djs rocked the valley this past Friday, 3/14. A fun night of festivities at the Grape Fest Hall in Lodi, CA. We played all of the latest bhangra music and played live dhol along with live boliyan with the guests. A small gathering, but everyone had a blast including the BPD team.

Eternity – Soni Pabla’s Tribute Album

eternityAll you bhangra lovers and Soni Pabla Fans are in for a big treat. The long awaited Tribute album, Eternity, is in stores everywhere. Features new tracks by Soni Pabla along with some of the industries best producers and vocalist. Soni Pabla’s untimely death shocked the world. A rising star in the Bhangra Industry was taken away from us. Please do not download this album. Sales proceeds go directly to Soni Pabla’s family, so go out and buy it now. My favorite track is Naseebo. You will definitely hear the Bol Punjab De crew playing that one at all of the parties.

Another fun packed weekend in the Bay Area

March 9On March 8th and 9th, 2008 the Bol Punjab De Djs rocked the cities of Fairfield and Hayward California. Mixing it up with the latest Punjabi and Hindi jams along with live dhol. A special treat for the crowd was an amazing performance by world famous Riffat Sultana and her live band. It was a great mix of Bhangra and classical Punjabi jams. Check out this video of a huge performance by Riffat Sultana that I found.

SoCal Bhangra 2008

March 1st, 2k8, The Bol Punjab De Crew Teamed up with Sher Foundation, one of the hottest Bhangra teams in the Nation, to rock The Orpheum Theater in downtown Los Angeles. The competition was great. Big ups to Bay Area’s Bhangra Empire, they were awesome. Looks like the Bay knows how to bring it. Malkit Singh rocked the crowd with his tumbi and vocals as usual and an exceptional dholi. Guest MC Hollywood Harv was an entertaining bonus, the rest of the MC’s were just pathetic. Speaking of pathetic, a huge after party with the worst bhangra djs I have ever heard. They were just lucky there was enough liquor going around to keep everyone entertained. All around, a great event, well worth going to.
